Blackhawk Modifications has introduced an engine upgrade for the Cessna Caravan. The 850-shp Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-42A adds 175 shp in all phases of flight. Certification is expected by year-end.
Jim Allmon, the company’s president and CEO, said the upgrade provides shorter takeoff distances and enhanced climb performance. “Hot-day performance numbers are better than originally anticipated, takeoff distances are reduced by approximately 45 percent, the climb rate doubles but the aircraft uses only half the fuel.” Allmon also said the maximum cruise speed is about 35 to 40 ktas higher. The engines are priced based on the P&WC exchange program and credit is issued for time remaining to overhaul on core PT6A-114/As.
