Attendees arriving early to participate in the 25th NBAA Maintenance Management Conference golf tournament in San Diego experienced a 7.2-magnitude earthquake on Sunday that caused an evacuation of the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina. Shortly after inspectors gave the OK to reopen the building, there was a 5.3-magnitude aftershock, then Monday morning, before the tournament, there was a 5.1-magnitude aftershock. Brad Townsend, NBAA’s maintenance committee chairman, told AIN, “We knew this 25th anniversary conference was going to rock, but this was a bit more than we’d planned.” This year’s conference theme is “Increasing Value Through Proper Asset Management.” Added Townsend, “We’re providing three days of seminars addressing all aspects of asset management.” Setting the tone for the conference, NBAA chairman Pat Cunningham gave a keynote address titled “Proper Leadership.” Celebrating the 25th anniversary by attending the conference are nine of the founders of the NBAA’s maintenance committee: Bill Meyer, Tom Connelly, John O’Neill, John Solito, Vinney Simone, George Miller, Dave Abbodauza, John Bucher and Mark Dietrich.
