The FAA has placed a $2.7 million order for Vaisala’s new AviMet PC-based runway visual range (RVR) system, which the FAA recently approved for ATC use. The FAA order includes 16 basic RVR systems. The AviMet system is an automated RVR assessment and reporting system, according to Vaisala, and includes optical sensors for determining optical range and measuring ambient light level as well as a newrunway-light intensity monitor.
