Content Body

The FAA has issued an update to its 2010-2011 Ground Deicing Holdover Time Tables and Guidance on its website. The document contains a revised listing of the lowest operational use temperatures (Lout) for anti-icing fluids, which were supplied to the agency and Transport Canada by the fluid manufacturers. According to the FAA, due to the complexity of Lout and the need to compile the information swiftly, there were some inaccuracies in some of the initially published Louts, which in some cases would imply that the fluids can be used at temperatures lower than acceptable. If used at the lower-than-acceptable temperatures, these fluids could have negative effects on lift and airplane controllability.
