ViaSat has completed the addition of its Yonder high-speed Internet coverage to Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and surrounding areas.
ViaSat is adding this coverage in cooperation with regional provider Andesat. Andesat leases bandwidth on the Intelsat IS-14 satellite and operates teleport facilities in Santiago, Chile, where ViaSat has installed a regional gateway. The service has been tested and is available in the new area to both aviation and maritime customers.
The Yonder network, which ViaSat operates with partner KVH Industries, delivers a typical user experience of 1 to 2 Mbps ground-to-air data transfer and 512 kbps air-to-ground.
“Mobility is the name of the game now, and together with ViaSat and KVH, we will play an important role in delivery of high-quality, mobile broadband in a global network,” said Andesat general manager Pablo Rasore.
