NATA Seeks Support in Fuel Fraud Fight

The National Air Transportation Association (NATA) is calling on its members to urge their congressional representatives to include language in pending legislation to repeal the “fuel fraud” provision. The provision, part of the 2005 Highway Bill, changed the collection of taxes for non-commercial jet fuel and required them to be deposited into the Highway Trust Fund. Since the bill’s enactment, the provision has cost the Airport and Airway Fund approximately $50 million a year in funding that could be used to enhance the National Airspace System’s safety and efficiency and is expected to divert another $500 million over the next decade. The association’s legislative action center has form letters that can be completed and emailed to members of Congress.
