Republic Polytechnic, a Singaporean college, and Pratt & Whitney have signed a two-year memorandum of understanding aimed at training future aviation professionals to be industry relevant and ready. With the anticipated future demand for manpower in the aviation industry, the MOU aims to nurture aerospace aspirants and promote a career for Republic Polytechnics students in this sector.

Under the MOU, Pratt & Whitney will provide internships and industrial attachments to the polytechnic students for each year of the MOU through its five global service partners’ Singapore-based facilities: Combustor Airmotive Services, International Aerospace Tubes Asia, Eagle Services Asia, Pratt & Whitney Services and Turbine Overhaul Services. Pratt & Whitney also agreed to sponsor Republic Polytechnic students through scholarships or book prizes. The engine maker will begin by sponsoring Republic Polytechnic’s Gold Medal Award for the most outstanding graduate from the aerospace engineering program each year for the duration of the MOU. “The Gold Medal Award involves a medal and some prize money to be given to the most outstanding graduate from Republic Polytechnic’s Aerospace Engineering program,” said a spokeswoman for the school

Additionally, Pratt & Whitney will develop a six-year fast-track program at its Turbine Overhaul Services for recruited graduates from the Republic Polytechnic School of Engineering. The company will sponsor the recruits’ bachelor’s degrees. Upon successful completion of the program, recruits will be converted to full-time salaried employees. The program will provide Pratt & Whitney with a pool of qualified engineers and allow students to enter the workforce promptly as competent, skilled engineers.
