West Star Aviation has begun offering interior services at its Columbia, S.C. (CAE) location. The new interior shop offers a variety of partial interior work, including upholstery, panel recovery and carpet.
“We continue to build on an initial $15,000 investment to start improvements that support the interior business,” Scott Mullen, director of maintenance, told AIN. “It didn’t require any additional square footage to be added at this time as we were able to redirect existing floor space.”
The MRO did add two employees, including Keith Foster as interior lead. A 25-year interiors veteran, he will oversee the new interior shop. The MRO expects to increase the number dedicated to interior work to about seven in the future.
West Star does not currently offer woodworking services at CAE; however, it plans to add additional capabilities and staff members. “We are planning to add woodworking in the first quarter of next year, but if business warrants it we’re prepared to move the implementation forward to meet the demand,” said the company. Currently woodworking is done at the MRO’s facilities at St. Louis Regional Airport in Alton, Ill., and Grand Junction, Colo.
