Bristow Academy Outfits R44 Trainers with Garmin Glass Cockpits

Bristow Academy, a division of Bristow Group, has introduced into service its first four Robinson R44 training helicopters with Garmin 500H glass cockpits with dual 6.5-inch LCDs. For additional situational awareness, a scaled version of Garmin’s SVT synthetic vision system will also be installed in the helicopters, “creating a 3-D ‘virtual reality’ perspective view of flight and en route terrain features.” Training on the R44 with the G500H will allow students to become familiar with glass-cockpit operations and smoothe their transition from training helicopter to Bristow Group’s offshore turbine fleet.
