A challenge facing aircraft manufacturers is compliance with the FAA’s new Part 25 Subpart H Electrical Wiring Interconnect System (EWIS) regulations, which apply a systems approach to wiring. “The Legacy 500 will be one of the first clean-sheet design aircraft to comply,” according to an Embraer spokesman, “and Embraer is currently in the process of demonstrating the Legacy 500 compliance to the certification authorities.” (EWIS also applies to the shorter Legacy 450.) “We are leveraging our experience with the Legacy 650, which was the first business aircraft to receive EWIS certification. Embraer also has EWIS experience through certification of the ERJ-145 and of the E-Jets (E170/190).”
