Cessna has regained the title of fastest civil aircraft with yesterday’s receipt of the FAA type certificate for the upgraded Citation X+ and today’s delivery of the first customer aircraft. The midsize Citation X+ has a verified maximum speed of Mach 0.935 (617 mph/536 ktas), besting the Gulfstream G650’s Mach 0.925.
The Citation X+’s winglets distinguish it from earlier X models and provide more efficient cruise at higher altitudes, reduced fuel burn and improved takeoff and landing performance at higher elevations and on hot days. Powered by two Fadec-controlled Rolls-Royce AE3007C2 turbofans (the latest variant of the AE3007C that powers more than 300 Citation Xs), the 36,600-pound-mtow Citation X+ also has a greater maximum range of 3,408 nm, up from 3,229 nm. The cabin, which is 15 inches longer than that of the Citation X, can seat up to 12 passengers.
“The Citation X+’s longer range not only makes it possible to travel from New York to Los Angeles in just four hours, but also [allows] nonstop legs from New York to Paris, Dubai to Singapore or Panama City to São Paulo,” said Scott Ernest, president and CEO of Textron Aviation, parent company of Cessna Aircraft.
