Content Body

Based on an earlier emergency airworthiness directive (EAD) the FAA has issued an unapproved parts notification for certain barrel nuts made by Alcoa Fastening Systems and used on the Embraer EMB-500 Phenom 100. According to the FAA the EAD resulted from a report of cracking in the barrel nuts at the horizontal stabilizer-to-vertical stabilizer attachment joint found during an inspection at the assmebly line. The EAD was issued to detect and correct cracking of the barrel nuts at the horizontal stabilizer-to-vertical stabilizer attachment joint, which could result in reduced structural integrity of the affected part and consequent detachment of the horizontal stabilizer from the airplane.
