The FAA on January 6 granted two exemptions for the operation of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to a pair of photographers.
A real estate photographer in Tucson, Ariz., plans to fly a Phantom 2 Vision + quadcopter to augment his company’s listing videos. In Spokane, Wash., Advanced Aviation Solutions will operate a fixed-wing eBee Ag UAS to make photographic measurements and perform crop scouting for precision agriculture. Both applicants must still be granted a Certificate of Authorization (COA) after their airspace safety operations are reviewed.
In granting the exemptions, DOT Secretary Anthony Foxx said the operations do not pose a threat to national airspace users or national security.
The latest approvals bring the total number of exemptions granted to 14 as the industry awaits the FAA’s draft of UAS operational guidelines.
