The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colo., is accepting applications for the 2016 Najeeb Halaby graduate student fellowship created to help shape the next generation of aviation weather researchers. The fellowship targets graduate students—late masters or early Ph. D. level—enrolled in an aviation-relevant department or program at a domestic or international university. The winner of the fellowship will conduct research broadly aimed at improving the integration of weather into decision support tools for improved weather avoidance and air traffic management. Interested candidates should have advanced research skills and a far-reaching vision.

The fellowship provides a monthly stipend for three months, including temporary living expenses, round-trip travel expenses to and from Boulder, travel to a conference to present results and page charges for one publication of key results.

Consideration will be given to candidates based on their curriculum vitae, a proposal (maximum five pages) presenting the research they would like to conduct at NCAR, a statement of the anticipated outcome and an explanation of how the proposed effort ties into the candidate’s ongoing graduate research project. The application must also include three references, including the student’s primary advisor. Email applications directly to NCAR by Febraury 28.
