Cessna Aircraft obtained EASA certification for a 14-place configuration of its Grand Caravan turboprop single. EASA becomes the 10th regulatory authority to validate the configuration. Cessna expects the approval will open new markets for the configuration since a number of regulatory agencies look to EASA as a leading aviation approval authority, the company said.
The approval for the higher density seating will increase operational flexibility for the aircraft’s use in Europe, Cessna added. Approval comes as EASA nears finalization of a rulemaking for commercial single-engine turbine operations in IMC. That rulemaking is expected to be completed early next year.
Separately, Cessna’s new Citation M2 light twijet recently entered commercial service in Europe. The company delivered the first M2 to be available for charter in Europe last week. Catreus, based in Biggin Hill, UK, is managing the aircraft for a private jet operator. Cessna obtained EASA validation for the aircraft in June 2014, following FAA’s certification in late 2013. Cessna had delivered 58 of the aircraft by the end of last year.
