Gulstream Aerospace president Larry Flynn is retiring on June 30 “for health reasons,” according to a statement issued on Friday by Gulfstream parent General Dynamics. Mark Burns, president of product support, will become Gulfstream president on July 1. This change was announced on February 13.
At the time, General Dynamics had announced that Flynn would be promoted to executive vice president of the General Dynamics Aerospace group on June 30 following the retirement of executive vice president Joe Lombardo, and that Burns would become Gulfstream president.
Burns has been in charge of product support since June 2008 and in February 2014 also became a vice president of General Dynamics, according to the company.
Flynn also came from the product support side of Gulfstream, having led that operation as president from 2002 to 2008. He then became senior vice president of marketing and sales from 2008 through 2011, when he was named president of Gulfstream Aerospace. Flynn grew up in a flying family; he and his two brothers were taught to fly by his father, a TWA pilot for 38 years.
"Larry Flynn has made significant contributions to General Dynamics and Gulfstream during his long career, most recently with the introduction of three new aircraft in 2014," said General Dynamics chairman and CEO Phebe Novakovic. "Under his leadership, he has positioned Gulfstream for continued success as a global leader in the business-jet market."
