With approximately 35 based turbine aircraft and near-capacity hangars at Tampa (Fla.) International Airport, Tampa International Jet Center (TIJC) announced that it has received approval from the Hillsborough County Aviaiton Authority Board for a ground lease extension and will begin construction on a new 32,000-sq-ft hangar.
The $5 million expansion, which is expected to start before year-end, will include 27,000 sq ft of aircraft storage—enough to shelter the latest class of ultra-long-range business jets—and 5,000 sq ft of tenant offices and shop space, along with more than three acres of ramp space. Once completed in the second half of next year, it will bring the total hangar space at TIJC to 172,000 sq ft. Tampa International Jet Center typically ranks among the nation's top FBOs in the annual AIN FBO Survey.
