Content Body

Surveillance video captured the July 15 crash of an Airbus SA341D attempting to land in a confined area behind a pub near the Abbeyshrule airfield, 40 miles northwest of Dublin. The video clearly shows the pilot attempting to land at least once before ground personnel appear to remove some objects from the helicopter’s path. The shots show the close proximity of a number of light poles at the spot the pilot chose for the second attempt, during which the helicopter struck something on the ground before rolling over.

Neither the pilot nor the single passenger aboard was hurt in the crash, but the crash impact force blasted a 10-foot hole in one of the pub’s walls. Local news sources said the helicopter’s pilot was later arrested and charged with reckless endangerment.
