Content Body

The latest version of Garmin Pilot for the iPad and iPhone includes new electronic logbook features that integrate with the flyGarmin service. The new app version, 7.4, should be available this week during the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh show.

The logbook automatically starts recording flight duration, takeoffs and landings, route and number of flight segments as soon as the app detects a change in airspeed and altitude. Users can also record endorsements, track flight currency and generate historical flight reports. After the flight, the pilot can accept the provisional recording or modify it before accepting it. The logbook feature includes additional data fields for recording aircraft type, identifier, Hobbs and tach times, pilot information, actual and simulated instrument time, etc. All data is automatically synced and saved on flyGarmin.

The new version 7.4 of Garmin Pilot for iOS devices has added a useful new function, nearest navigation with quick access to the closest airport, navaid, intersection and user waypoint as well as visual reporting points, ATC centers and frequencies and nearest airspace. A ruler line shows the pilot the selected airport and course and distance information. Another new app feature is automatic calculation of density altitude on the weather tab for each airport.

Garmin Pilot starts at $74.99 per year. The logbook and flyGarmin features are available at no extra charge.
