Air Wilmington, the lone FBO at North Carolina’s Wilmington International Airport (ILM), broke ground this week on a new 21,000-sq-ft hangar. The 150-foot-wide, 140-foot-deep $3 million structure was designed to accommodate the latest class of long-range business jets. It features a 28-foot-high door opening and an 11-inch-thick epoxy-covered reinforced concrete hangar floor that can support aircraft weighing more than 100,000 pounds.
When completed in the first quarter of 2016, the new building will represent the largest fully enclosed corporate hangar at the airport, and bring the total aircraft storage at the family-owned FBO to 70,000 sq ft. ILM is home to approximately 20 turbine-powered aircraft ranging from a Gulfstream V to a King Air 90.
