Following the recent decision by the Greenville-Spartanburg (S.C.) International Airport (GSP) Commission to take over control of the lone FBO on the field when incumbent operator Stevens Aviation’s lease expires at the end of next year, the aviation services provider announced that it plans to move its MRO business from GSP as well. That would signal an end to its presence at the airport where the company has been for more than five decades.
In a move it says will make it a stronger, leaner and more efficient company, Stevens will consolidate its turboprop MRO facility at GSP with its main aircraft maintenance location 10 miles away at Donaldson Field Airport, which previously specialized only in business jets. In addition, Stevens plans to expand its current aircraft refurbishment and paint capabilities at Donaldson to allow greater capacity and provide paint services for larger aircraft. Longer term, the company intends to open another brand-new location in addition to its other facilities at Dayton, Ohio, and Nashville, Tenn.
