Content Body

The biennial Mitsubishi MU-2 Pilot’s Review of Proficiency (PROP) seminars begin April 1 and 2 in Dallas, with seminars to follow on April 15 and 16 in Tucson, Ariz., and April 29 and 30 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The PROP seminars are free and open to any pilot, not just MU-2 pilots or those contemplating purchasing an MU-2.

Subjects to be covered at PROP 2016 include ADS-B, single-pilot CRM, safety, accident analysis, MU-2 service centers, advanced aerodynamics, engine operation, angle-of-attack indicating systems, stability and single-engine operations. A special feature at this year’s events is a presentation by former NTSB investigator Greg Feith on the back-story of the MU-2 midair near Greenwood, Ind., on Sept. 11, 1992. Optional courses include a Honeywell TPE331 engine course available before PROP opens in Dallas and Tucson, and a weather radar course held before the Cincinnati seminar. On the Saturday after each of the three PROPs, a pinch-hitter course is available for non-pilots.

PROP is held every other year by MU-2 product support provider Turbine Aircraft Services for Mitsubishi Heavy Industry America. The first PROP was held in 1982, and after a hiatus following the end of MU-2 production in 1986, the seminars resumed in 1994 and have been held every other year since. Of the 704 MU-2s produced, an estimated 279 remain actively flying, according to Mitsubishi.
