The Universal Avionics InSight flight deck is a step nearer to certification. The company has finished the engineering of the display system and is preparing to complete the supplemental type certificate (STC) and technical standard order (TSO) submission package needed to prepare for type inspection authorization, a key hurdle in the certification process.
The InSight flight deck will be available with three or four Universal EFI-1040 displays, with features such as embedded synthetic vision with advanced mapping capability, embedded charts, radio control and broadcast weather, according to Universal. Aircraft upgraded with InSight avionics and integrated with Universal’s SBAS FMS and UniLink UL800/801 communications management unit will be able to meet modern avionics mandates and requirements such as performance-based navigation, CPDLC, FANS 1/A+, Data Comm, ATN B1 and others. The InSight system requires fewer line replaceable units, which reduces weight and wiring.
“We are pleased to have reached this significant milestone and look forward to introducing our latest product to the industry,” said Dan Reida, Universal Avionics v-p of sales and marketing.
