Learjet 35A N452DA crashed on short final about a quarter mile from the approach end of Runway 1 at Teterboro Airport yesterday at approximately 3:30 p.m. Both pilots, the only ones on board, were killed when it broke apart and burst into flames on impact in a crowded warehouse area in Carlstadt, New Jersey. No one on the ground was injured. According to FlightAware data, the flight originated at Philadelphia International Airport at around 3 p.m. local time.

The twinjet crashed about a half hour later on what appeared to be its first landing attempt. Data shows it had left Teterboro early that morning, flown to Hanscom Field outside Boston, then to Philadelphia, where it remained for four hours before the fatal leg back to Teterboro. Shortly after the accident, Teterboro’s ATIS reported a few clouds at 6,500 feet and winds from 340 degrees at 20 knots, gusting to 30.

FAA records show the 1981 Learjet was registered to A&C Big Sky Aviation LLC of Billings, Montana, in 2014. It was previously registered to Duncan Aviation. According to FlightAware data, in the 11 days before the crash, N452DA had made several trips to and from Teterboro and other airports in the New York area. The crewmembers’ identities had not been released at press time.
