Universal Avionics (Booth N2821, Static Display) has received an FAA technical standard order for SCN 31.1 software for its UniLink UL-800/801 Communications Management Unit (CMU). The new software will help operators meet Europe’s Feb. 5, 2020 mandate for Aeronautical Telecommunications Network Baseline 1 (ATN B1) controller-pilot datalink communications (CPDLC) and context management functions. These capabilities were formerly known as Link 2000+, according to Universal Avionics.

The new SCN 31.1 software for the UniLink CMU “provides baseline software and user interface improvements, in addition to the ATN B1 CPDLC capability available as an optional configuration,” according to the company. Version 31.1 also updates the UL-801 CMU’s VHF data radio software to version 10.3. The UL800/UL-801 CMU can interface with a variety of flight management systems, not just Universal FMSs.

"The new UniLink software features FANS and ATN B1 CPDLC message harmonization, which addresses industry requirements for operational consistency and human factors for operators flying in both continental Europe and oceanic airspace,” said Universal Avionics v-p of sales and marketing Dan Reida.
