Long-time FAA executive Margaret “Peggy” Gilligan is the 2017 recipient of the Laura Taber Barbour (LTB) Air Safety Award, the LTB Air Safety Foundation's Award Board announced at the recent Flight Safety Foundation International Air Safety Summit. Presented annually, the LTB award honors pioneers in advancing flight safety.


Gilligan spent her 37-year FAA career in numerous key positions, including Associate Administrator of Aviation Safety for eight years, until her retirement in March. She spent two decades in the agency’s aviation safety organization, playing integral roles in innovative safety initiatives, including the Commercial Aviation Safety Team and Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing program.


“Peggy’s life-long dedication, extraordinary vision and substantial contributions to global aviation safety cemented her reputation as one of our industry’s true luminaries,” said Dick Healing, the LTB award board vice chair. “The Laura Taber Barbour Air Safety Foundation and Award Board are pleased to recognize Peggy with the 2017 Laura Taber Barbour Air Safety Award for her immeasurable contributions to our industry’s exemplary safety record.”
