Canadian aviation services provider Skyservice has broken ground on a new development project at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The company, which operates FBOs at Pearson, Calgary, Montreal, and Ottawa, expects to begin construction this spring on a $60 million (CDN) expansion on the south side of the airport. It will be the lone FBO in that area, which is closer to the city and highways.
The new facility, which carries a 25-year lease, is being developed in partnership with Ontario-based Rice Group. It will include a 100,000-sq-ft hangar capable of sheltering aircraft up to the new Bombardier Global 7000, as well as a 20,000-sq-ft full-service terminal and business center. Despite the current 260,000 sq ft of hangar space Skyservice currently leases at Pearson, the company says it needs even more space to support its rapidly expanding managed aircraft business.
“Skyservice is an essential part of Canada’s aviation infrastructure network, and we are delighted to be expanding to serve more customers and passengers in the Toronto area,” said company chairman and CEO Marshall Miles. “With its reputation for excellence and diversified service offerings, Skyservice is well positioned to capitalize on multiple organic growth and acquisition opportunities.”
The facility, which is being designed for energy efficiency, is anticipated to be completed in February 2019.
