Tamarack Aerospace Group was granted an addition to its parts manufacturer approval (PMA) for Atlas Active Winglets on the Cessna Citation business jet line to cover the recently certified units for the CJ3 and CJ3+. The PMA extension comes shortly after Tamarack received European Aviation Safety Agency and U.S. FAA approvals for installation of the active winglets on the CJ3/CJ3+. The approval also follows an expansion of Tamarack’s facility to reduce installation time to one week, plus paint. PMA approval enables Tamarack to produce and install the winglets at its facility in Sandpoint, Idaho.
“From my perspective, this is ample evidence that the Tamarack team now has the expertise and working relationships with our regulatory partners, in both the EU and U.S., to not only obtain multiple sequential regulatory approvals, but [also to] quickly turn those STCs into an installable product, so I am very proud of this accomplishment.” said Nick Guida, founder and CEO of Tamarack Aerospace.
The winglets, which can be installed without structural reinforcement to the wing, provide the CJ3/CJ3+ with a 2,100 nm range at maximum continuous thrust with IFR reserve, a maximum zero fuel weight increase of 400 pounds, the ability to climb direct to FL450 in 30 minutes, increased climb gradients, and improved ride stability. In addition, upgraded exterior lighting comes with the installation.
The CJ3/CJ3+ certification followed similar approvals for the CJ, CJ1, CJ1+, and M2. Tamarack remains on track for CJ2/CJ2+ certification in the next few months.
