Content Body

To help pilots prepare for more controller-pilot datalink communications (CPDLC) capabilities coming to Los Angeles-area Van Nuys Airport (VNY), FAA CPDLC contractor Harris Corp. is hosting a “snack and learn” session tomorrow at Clay Lacy Aviation VNY. Pre-departure clearance (PDC) operations began at the Southern California airfield on June 12 and full departure clearance (DCL) capabilities will start August 20.

The session, to be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. PDT in Clay Lacy’s Hangar 7, will educate business aircraft operators on the steps needed to participate with departure clearance via CPDLC and U.S. domestic en route CPDLC services (FANS 1/A CPDLC) coming later this year, as well as answer any questions about the FAA’s CPDLC implementation. Discussions will be tailored primarily for the business and general aviation audience, according to Harris.

Business aircraft operators based at VNY or nearby airports, as well as transient operators, are welcome at the briefing, but Harris asks that those planning to attend RVSP via email.
