Tanis Aircraft Products’ preconditioning system for the Erickson S-64 Aircrane has received an STC from the FAA. The Minnesota-based company’s (Booth C3934) system prepares the aircraft for start-up through heating elements for the engine, main rotor gearbox, accessory gearbox, fuel control unit, hydraulic tanks, oil coolers, avionics, batteries and cabin. The company noted that preconditioning adds to operational reliability, safety, utility, and reliable starts in all weather conditions.

“A Tanis system is the only solution to provide heat to all the critical helicopter components,” said company president and CEO Doug Evink. “We are excited to be supporting Erickson in their continued success by contributing to their reliability and safety of operations.”

Portland, Ore.-based Erickson owns the world’s largest fleet of S-64s with 20, and as the owner of the helicopter’s type certificate has the ability to manufacture it. Its fleet operates throughout the world, in remote locations under challenging conditions, performing a variety of missions including firefighting, construction, heavy lift, and oil-and-gas.
