Content Body

Illinois-based Skandia soundproofing kit for the Pilatus PC-12 has been STC'd by EASA. The company claims the kit offers increased passenger comfort in all phases of flight. In testing on the turboprop single, the company achieved overall sound reduction of 4 dB, with a reduction of up to 6 dB in some seating areas.

According to the company, aircraft owners can select options of proprietary engineered acoustic materials such as fuselage skin and floor damping, thermal acoustic insulation bags, and over-frame blankets and carpet pad. It further said installation is simple and straightforward due to the intuitive kitting process, instructions, and guidelines. It can be purchased directly from the manufacturer or through an MRO or completion center.

“The PC-12 is a great aircraft and owners are keen on investing in it,” said Skandia president Jarod Triplett. “We have created the system in a way that owner/operators can select how much sound performance they want to add based on their budget, or how much weight they want to use.”

The STC authorization comes one year after the acoustic system received approval from the FAA.
