Content Body

Canada West Avionics has finished an approved model list-supplemental type certificate (AML-STC) for the installation of Flight Data Systems’ Sentry cockpit voice recorder (CVR) system. The package includes the Sentry CVR with recorder independent power supply (RIPS), cockpit controller, and cockpit-area microphone, and the AML-STC meets the upcoming Canada CVR mandate.

Aircraft covered by the STC include most Beechcraft turboprops, Cessna CitationJets, Dornier aircraft, M7 Aerospace turboprops, and Mitsubishi MU-2s. Additional AML-STCs are underway for Part 25 airplanes and Part 29 rotorcraft. The Sentry system is technical standard order approved under TSO-C123a, TSO-C177a, TSO-C155b, and TSO-C121b.

According to Flight Data Systems, the "Sentry is the smallest, lightest, and lowest power consumption ED-112A recorder available in the market today.” Sentry records two hours of datalink messaging and has four high- or low-fidelity audio channels, rotor speed inputs, Arinc-429 and -717, RS-422/485, analog, and discrete sensor inputs, and a 10-minute RIPS module.

For all types of aircraft, including advanced air mobility and Part 23, 25, 27, and 29 platforms, Sentry meets size, weight, and power requirements and certification standards, according to Flight Data Systems. "The solution allows for easy installation onto existing CVR structural mountings without modifications.”
