Aspen Avionics is celebrating the fifth anniversary of certification and service entry of its Evolution E5 primary flight display with a $1,000 discount, bringing the price of the E5 to $4,995. Buyers can purchase the E5 from Aspen dealers and, if desired, have it installed at their local maintenance shop.
The Aspen displays make upgrading an aircraft equipped with traditional instruments easier because it fits into the space occupied by two standard-size panel holes. The base E5 includes an attitude indicator and horizontal situation indicator (HSI), rechargeable backup battery, GPS steering, air data computer, and attitude heading reference system. No backup attitude indicator is required, giving aircraft owners the option of removing the aircraft’s vacuum system.
For another $495, buyers can upgrade the E5 to a TSO’d electronic flight instrument system with full HSI, true airspeed, outside air temperature, wind direction and speed, and WAAS GPS mode annunciations.
"In contrast to many other standalone systems, Aspen’s versatile design and open architecture allow features to be easily configured to specific flight needs with the opportunity to add additional options without unit replacement,” said Aspen v-p of sales and customer support Mark Ferrari.
Owners can also add more functionality by trading in the E5 for Aspen’s Evolution Pro Max display for $4,495. This adds a remote sensor module with a GPS receiver.
