Starman Bros. Auctions has been engaged to help sell Schweizer Rotorcraft Services Group (RSG), the Fort Worth, Texas-based manufacturer of the piston-powered 269-series helicopters. The sale culminates a period in which the company has changed hands many times since its inception as part of Hughes Aircraft in 1947.
In 1984, McDonnell Douglas acquired Hughes Helicopters, and then Schweizer purchased the 269 series in 1986. Sikorsky was next in line, buying it in 2004, only to shut that down in 2012. In 2018, Schweizer RSG was formed and took over 269-series support and production of the S300C and S300CBi. While the turbine-powered S333 was available, there were no plans to produce it without firm orders. More than 1,200 of the 269 series are still operating.
According to Starman, Schweizer RSG is being offered as a “complete ongoing business…via private sale.” The sale will be conducted in multiple phases, with the first taking 60 days—“At which time we will be accepting written offers for the company, as well as qualifying any and all potential buyers.”
The sale includes the type certificate for the 269A through D model, a Part 145 repair station certificate, jigs, dies, tooling, and blueprints for the 269 and 333, new parts, engines, cabin sections, shop equipment, test fixtures and benches, calibrated tools, and existing and future contracts.
