Content Body

From humble beginnings in the American Midwest to its position today as the world’s largest family-owned business jet service provider, Duncan Aviation’s story is one of vision, perseverance, and—above all—people. Built on a foundation of strong family values, technical excellence, and a relentless commitment to customers, the company’s history reflects a culture where team members and customers alike are treated as part of one extended family.

A Leap of Faith That Sparked an Industry Leader

Duncan Aviation’s journey began in 1956 when founder Donald Duncan purchased an interest in a Beechcraft distributorship in Omaha, Nebraska. A pilot and entrepreneur, Duncan recognized early on that business aviation could transform how companies operate—connecting people, accelerating decisions, and opening new opportunities.

But the company’s origin story is more than a business decision; it is rooted in a mindset of looking forward and working with great people. Duncan built the company by taking calculated risks, trusting his instincts, and believing in the people around him.

That philosophy continues to guide Duncan Aviation today. What began as a small operation has grown into a global enterprise with more than 3,000 team members, three full-service maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities, Satellite shops throughout the US, and a worldwide customer base—yet the company has never lost sight of its entrepreneurial spirit.

A Family Business at Its Core

At the heart of Duncan Aviation is a multigenerational family legacy. From Donald Duncan to his son Robert, grandson Todd, and now fourth-generation leaders PK and Harrison, the company has remained family-owned and operated. This continuity has shaped not only the company’s leadership but also its culture. Duncan Aviation has long emphasized treating employees and customers with honesty, respect, and integrity—values passed down through generations.

Robert Duncan, who became company president in 1968, believed that the company’s success began with its people. In fact, a pivotal shift in philosophy reinforced that team members—not just customers or profits—are the foundation of the business. By investing in and empowering its workforce, Duncan Aviation ensures that exceptional service naturally follows.

This people-first approach has helped create a workplace where loyalty runs deep, careers span decades, and individuals take pride in their contributions to something larger than themselves.

A Culture That Feels Like Family

Even as Duncan Aviation has grown into a global organization, it has intentionally preserved a close-knit, family-oriented culture. Todd Duncan, who was named Chairman in 2007, remains committed to ensuring that both team members and customers feel valued, supported, and connected.

“We’ll always act small, no matter how big we get,” Todd said of the company’s guiding principle to maintain personal relationships and a sense of belonging.

This culture is evident in everyday interactions—from the hangar floor to executive offices. Team members collaborate across departments, share knowledge, and support one another in delivering exceptional results. Customers, in turn, experience a level of care and attention that sets Duncan Aviation apart in the industry.

The company’s emphasis on relationships extends beyond its facilities. Through initiatives like its Apprentice Program that helps team members earn A&P certification, Silver Wings Club with 715 lifetime members who have celebrated careers with the company longer than 25 years, and the Duncan Aviation Family Trust, the organization invests in education, community and team member development, and aviation-related programs, reinforcing its commitment to making a positive impact both inside and outside the workplace.

Building Expertise Through People

Duncan Aviation’s reputation for excellence is built on the expertise of its team members. From the early days, the company focused on recruiting and developing top-tier aviation professionals—mechanics, engineers, technicians, and specialists who could deliver comprehensive solutions for aircraft owners and operators.

Over time, this commitment evolved into a full-service model that addresses every aspect of business aviation. Customers can rely on Duncan Aviation for aircraft sales and acquisitions, airframe and engine maintenance, avionics installations, interior refurbishments, paint services, components overhaul, parts, certification, and more—all delivered with precision and care.

This breadth of capability is supported by significant investment in training and development. Over the past decades, the company has dedicated tens of millions of dollars to enhancing skills, ensuring that its workforce remains among the most knowledgeable and capable in the industry.

The result is a team that not only understands aircraft systems but also anticipates customer needs, solves complex challenges, and consistently delivers high-quality outcomes.

Innovation That Drives the Industry Forward

Innovation has been a cornerstone of Duncan Aviation’s growth. From adopting new technologies to expanding service capabilities, the company has continually evolved to meet the changing demands of business aviation.

Early on, Duncan Aviation distinguished itself by becoming a “one-stop shop” for aircraft services—an approach that streamlined the customer experience and set a new standard for the industry. Duncan Aviation was the first to recognize the need for Project Managers to serve as one point of communication to customers. In 1985, the company opened the first small Satellite facility to bring avionics services closer to customers. And in 1991, Duncan Aviation started a new service for helping people find and acquire the best business aircraft for their needs.

Today, that spirit of innovation continues through advancements in avionics, engineering, manufacturing, finishes, and digital solutions. The company has embraced tools that improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and enhance safety—ensuring that customers receive the highest level of service and communication possible in an increasingly complex environment.

Investment in facilities, equipment, and technology has also played a critical role. By continuously upgrading its infrastructure, Duncan Aviation maintains its position at the forefront of the industry, capable of supporting a wide range of aircraft and services on a global scale.

A Commitment to Quality and Trust

Quality is not just a goal at Duncan Aviation—it is a promise. The company’s core values emphasize delivering high-quality products and services, maintaining accountability, and fostering trust in every interaction.

This commitment is reflected in every detail, from meticulous maintenance procedures to personalized customer support. Clients know they can depend on Duncan Aviation to deliver safe, reliable, and timely solutions—an assurance that has earned the company a loyal and growing customer base.

Trust is further reinforced by transparency and integrity. The organization prides itself on “doing the right thing,” even when it requires extra effort or investment. This approach has helped build long-term relationships with customers who return again and again, confident in the company’s ability to meet their needs. In fact, in 2026, Duncan Aviation was named #160 on the Forbes Most Trusted Companies in America list.

Growing with Purpose

Duncan Aviation’s growth has been both strategic and purposeful. From its early expansion into maintenance, repair, and overhaul services to the addition of Satellites in key locations, the company has consistently focused on enhancing its capabilities and reach.

Today, Duncan Aviation operates full-service facilities in Lincoln, Nebraska; Battle Creek, Michigan; and Provo, Utah, along with a network of Satellite locations across the United States and engine Rapid Response teams ready to support operators worldwide at a moment’s notice. This footprint allows the company to provide responsive, high-quality service wherever customers need it.

Despite its size and scope, the organization remains grounded in its founding principles. Growth is not pursued for its own sake but as a means of better serving customers, supporting team members, and strengthening the company’s long-term future.

Looking Ahead: The Next Chapter

As Duncan Aviation moves forward, its leadership remains focused on sustaining the values and culture that have defined the company for decades. The fourth generation, PK and Harrison, are actively involved, bringing fresh perspectives while honoring the traditions that have guided the business.

This balance of continuity and innovation positions Duncan Aviation for continued success. By investing in its people, embracing new technologies, and maintaining its commitment to quality, the company is well-equipped to navigate the evolving landscape of business aviation.

At the same time, the organization remains dedicated to its core mission: to provide exceptional service, build lasting relationships, and create an environment where team members can thrive.

A Legacy Built on People

Ultimately, Duncan Aviation’s story is not just about aircraft or facilities—it is about people. It is about the technicians who take pride in their craft, the leaders who prioritize integrity, innovation, continual improvement, and collaboration, and the customers who trust the company with their most valuable assets.

From the passion of its founder in 1956 to a global leader in business aviation today, Duncan Aviation has stayed true to maintaining a family feeling for those it touches. As the company continues to grow and evolve, one principle remains unchanged: when you invest in people, foster a family culture, and pursue excellence with integrity, the sky is not the limit—it is just the beginning.
