A pending supplemental type certificate (STC) is set to update aging Honeywell displays on legacy Citation and Embraer models. Aircraft maintenance and parts provider C&L Aviation Group has partnered with ScioTeq to develop the STC for the DU-875 NG light display for the Cessna Citation Excel, Encore, Ultra, and Bravo, as well as the Embraer ERJ-135/145.
The STC allows operators to upgrade Honeywell DU-870 CRTs with drop-in replacements that offer reduced power consumption and significant weight savings, while maintaining compatibility with the existing cockpit configuration. ScioTeq, the DU-875 OEM and official Honeywell partner for its Primus Elite display upgrade, has designed the DU-875 NG Light to provide the smallest size, weight, power, and cost.
The unit features a 7- by 5-inch LCD screen with 1024- by 768-pixel resolution, operates at just 34 Watts—versus the DU-870’s 138 Watts), and weighs 15.4 pounds. It is convection-cooled and is available in both black and gray bezel variants.
According to C&L, the LCD units offer a substantially improved mean time between failures versus the legacy DU-870 displays in these aircraft, helping operators improve reliability, reduce maintenance requirements, and lower overall operating costs.
“Through this partnership with ScioTeq, C&L continues to deliver innovative and reliable solutions that support operators in avoiding obsolescence,” said C&L CEO Chris Kilgour. “Many operators have been searching for a cost-effective replacement for the aging DU-870 display, which faces increasing supportability challenges. Until now, there has not been a viable, safe alternative available.”
