GDC Technics and Aircraft Performance Co. (APC) have been awarded a joint demonstration contract for an advanced technology wingtip solution from the U.S. Air Force for the C-130J and C-5. The wingtip solution, presented at the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Pitch Day on November 13, will increase the performance of the aircraft wing and reduce fuel consumption while increasing aircraft range. No structural modification is required to the wing, according to GDC Technics CEO Brad Foreman.

“APC is excited to jointly support the U.S. Air Force with GDC Technics on this solution that we foresee spanning over business, commercial, and military aviation,” said APC chairman Mohammed Alzeer. “This solution is a result of considerable research and development work over the past five years. We’ve completed successful simulation and wind tunnel testing on multiple civilian and military platforms.”

The GDC Technics wingtip solution is currently being flight-tested on an Airbus A330 and the company expects to obtain FAA and EASA certifications early next year. This solution is also designed to support the commercial aviation market by reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
