Sigma Air Mobility has signed an agreement with Vertical Aerospace to purchase and operate an undisclosed number of the British aircraft developer’s upcoming eVTOL air taxi. Signed on July 20, the memorandum of understanding also pledges support for the path from aircraft acquisition and operational testing to the launch of commercial services.
Luxembourg-based Sigma, an advanced air mobility operator, is a member of Luxaviation Group. Vertical believes that the Luxembourg-based Luxaviation Group’s five decades of experience will prove crucial in ensuring its eVTOL is ready to meet real-world operational requirements. The deal is one of several partnerships the developer has struck with what it calls “leading operators to simplify the adoption of electric aviation.”
“Bringing a new class of aircraft into commercial service…requires an ecosystem of experienced operators, customers, and partners ready to deploy it at scale,” said Michael Cervenka, chief commercial and strategy officer at Vertical. To date, Vertical’s pre-order book numbers some 1,500 aircraft, with type certification expected in 2029.
