Partners Trial Electric Air Services in Norway and Sweden

Green Flyway, a cross-border project involving Swedish and Norwegian stakeholders, has agreed to work with electric aircraft developer MD Aircraft on preparing the way for new regional air mobility services in the Scandinavian countries. The German manufacturer announced the collaboration this week under the terms of a memorandum of understanding signed in late June.

MD Aircraft aims to begin test flights of its technology demonstrator for the all-electric MDA1 eViator commuter aircraft in 2028. It has signed preliminary sales agreements for the 10-seat aircraft with prospective customers including South Korean leasing group Solyu Company.

Green Flyway has established what it calls “an international test arena” to evaluate the viability of electric flights to connect cities including Östersund, Røros, and Trondheim. The partners intend to conduct trial operations for passenger and cargo services in Arctic conditions. The project also covers market development efforts, engagement with local communities, and the development of an operational infrastructure ecosystem.

Last month, MD Aircraft signed a letter of intent with Sweden-based ST Airborne Systems to assess the use case for the eViator in surveillance operations. ST provides advanced airborne surveillance platforms for maritime and environmental monitoring.
