Content Body

The general and business aviation alphabet groups participated in a General Aviation Caucus event at the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday that featured academy award-winning actor and avid pilot Harrison Ford. Before more than 250 congressional staff and industry representatives, including at least 20 House representatives and five senators, Ford talked about his passion for aviation and GA’s positive economic impact and humanitarian efforts. “Approximately 231,000 general aviation aircraft fly throughout this country each day. That’s a lot more than people realize,” Ford said. “The economic impact of the industry is another factor that many people aren’t aware of–that it employs more than 1.3 million people and contributes more than $150 billion to our nation’s economy.” He also highlighted general aviation’s wider contributions to the public, including EMS flights, the Civil Air Patrol and public safety flights. Additionally, Ford praised the entire general aviation industry for its collective relief efforts in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti and for continuing to be a major contributor of goods and supplies into the quake-ravaged country.
