The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) is hosting safety seminars, flight training sessions and other activities this week at the Sun ’n’ Fun Fly-In in Lakeland, Fla. This year, the association moved to a new, central location at the show site, across from the FAA building on Laird Drive.
AOPA has two tents at Sun ’n’ Fun: one for meeting with members and the second for activities. Its main tent allows attendees to meet AOPA staff, join or renew memberships, learn about products and services, shop for AOPA merchandise, enter to win prizes and see the association’s Debonair Sweepstakes aircraft.
At the new activities tent, the group will host special gatherings, breakfasts and luncheons, in addition to the educational sessions where Sun ’n’ Fun attendees can “engage in extensive safety training and presentations by some of aviation’s greatest leaders and educators as we build community and deepen our understanding of flight.” The seminar and training schedule includes sessions on TFRs and NORAD intercepts, hosted by a fighter pilot; Jeppesen’s VFR Mobile Flight Deck; camera systems in the cockpit, with reviews of the Garmin VIRB and GoPro Hero3; ADS-B traffic limitations; stick-and-rudder skills, presented by Rod Machado; accident case studies; and aircraft insurance.
