Content Body

Swift Fuels is laying the groundwork to make its unleaded 94 MON aviation gasoline available in certain regions in the U.S. and Canada as it continues to participate in the government-industry program for a 100 low lead replacement. The company (Booth 461) is introducing its Unleaded 94 MON (motor-octane-number) avgas during AirVenture and is planning sessions throughout the week on the 94 MON avgas, as well as the benefits of unleaded fuel.

The 94 MON avgas is FAA certified and meets ASTM standards. But Swift cautions the fuel, designed for lower-octane piston engines, is not a replacement for 100LL. Swift, however, believes it could help with the fleet transition to such a fuel.

Swift has partnered with Petersen Aviation to offer supplemental type certificates for aircraft compatible with 94 MON avgas. STCs have been developed for various Cessna, Piper, Beechcraft, Maule and Mooney aircraft, among others. Swift estimates the more than 40 percent of the applicable U.S. piston fleet already is qualified, but the company is continuing its work on further STCs.
