Cobham Satcom Aviator SP is providing a vital air-ground link for military and firefighting helicopter operators, the company said. The unit, which works on Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband satcom network, is being highlighted at Cobham's booth (C1334) this week at Heli-Expo 2018.
Aviator SP systems are designed to meet enhanced requirements to suit environmental specifications. The satcom units are rain-fade resistant with extended qualifications for helicopter vibrations and are able to withstand greater temperature ranges. It is available in single- or multi-channel configurations.
Cobham’s SP satcom solutions have been applied in a variety of helicopter missions, including the Bell 407 for FLIR video and communication. The single-channel unit features speeds up to 432 Kbps, while the multi-channel one offers up to 1,600 Kbps. They can be paried with a Cobham high-gain antenna or the IGA-5001 intermediate-gain antenna.
