Outerlink Global Solutions' Iris airborne connectivity system was installed on more than 100 aircraft last year. This milestone comes just three years after it launched the tool for voice, video, flight data recording, and high-performance ViaSat satcom communications.
The system’s in-cabin Wi-Fi network and its ability to push EKG and other medical data to receiving hospitals in less than 12 seconds allows medical personnel to be fully engaged in patient care before the helicopter touches down.
Currently, Outerlink holds certifications from the FAA, EASA, and Transport Canada for several helicopters, including the Sikorsky S-92, Airbus EC135 and EC145e, and Bell 206 LongRanger. Phoenix Heli-Flight will collaborate with Outerlink to develop additional STCs for Iris installations in the Airbus AS350, EC120, and EC130.
Other customers upgrading their fleet to the system include the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Survival Flight, which is retrofitting its fleet of Bell 206 LongRanger and B407 aeromedical helicopters.
