Garmin's GFC 500 autopilot is now available for Beechcraft Bonanza and Debonair models.
Content Body

The FAA has approved Garmin’s GFC 500 autopilot for installation on the Beechcraft Bonanza and Debonair. The STC covers models from the 33 through the G33, although certain serial numbers are excluded. An STC is also under way to install the GFC 500 in the F33A Bonanza.

The GFC 500 integrates with the Garmin G5 electronic flight instrument; both retail for less than $10,000 (not including installation). For airplanes already fitted with a G5, a two-axis GFC 500 can be purchased for $6,995.

Garmin's G500 includes electronic stability and protection (ESP), which works even when the autopilot is switched off to help pilots maintain stable flight. The autopilot also provides underspeed and overspeed protection, as well as coupled go-arounds during missed approach sequencing when paired with a GTN 650/750 navigator. Its mode controller is fitted with a control wheel for adjusting pitch, airspeed, and vertical speed. Also included is Garmin’s level button, which returns the airplane to straight-and-level flight.

Options include a pitch-trim servo for automatic trim and manual electric trip, and a yaw damper servo is available to help minimize yawing oscillations and maintain coordinated flight, according to Garmin. Other GFC 500 features include altitude pre-select and indicated airspeed hold mode; coupled descent Vnav profiles when installed with a GTN 650/750; coupled approaches; and built-in GPS roll-steering capability.
