Content Body

Satellite operator Iridium today announced the availability of its Go! exec portable satellite communication device, which brings Iridium Certus network capability to the Go! series. The original Go! device will continue to be available but it is limited to the slower original Iridium 2.4-kpbs speed, while the Go! exec provides Iridium Certus 100 capability (88 kbps download and 22 kbps upload).

Go! exec weighs 2.25 pounds and has a built-in color touchscreen that can be used to operate the unit, or it can be connected to a smartphone via Wi-Fi. Up to four people can use the Go! Exec simultaneously (two voice calls maximum and two data connections). Battery life is 24 hours on standby or six hours talk and data.

Like any Iridium device, the low-earth orbit satellite network allows for communication anywhere in the world, although a clear line of sight to the sky is required. However, some countries such as India prohibit the use of satellite communication devices.

Iridium Go! exec is available now and is being sold by dealers for $1,579. Airtime rates vary from $99 per month to $2,299 per year, depending on the amount of data needed. An unlimited plan is not available.

With a built-in speaker, Go! Exec can be used in standalone mode. Its battery can also be used to charge smart devices.
