Dynon Adding Remote IFR GPS to SkyView HDX Displays

Avionics manufacturer Dynon is making it easier for experimental aircraft builders and owners of certified aircraft to install SkyView HDX displays by developing an IFR GPS navigation module that can be installed remotely. This eliminates the need to install a separate (and non-Dynon) GPS navigator in the instrument panel.

With the new remote GPS module, Dynon SkyView HDX owners will have the ability to fly IFR with GPS navigation, including LPV approaches coupled to Dynon’s autopilot. The availability of the GPS module comes with a redesigned flight-planning interface in the HDX software. “Pilots will intuitively load departures, arrivals, and approaches using clear, visual workflows, entirely eliminating the steep learning curves historically associated with instrument flight transitions,” according to Dynon.

Although Dynon hasn’t provided pricing and availability information yet, owners and buyers of HDX displays will be able to add the GPS module after it receives FAA approval. The module won’t be compatible with older Dynon displays such as the SkyView Classic and Touch systems.

“Our goal has always been to make world-class avionics accessible, integrated, and intuitive,” said Dynon president Brad Thurow. “With this upcoming capability, we intend for SkyView HDX owners to fly IFR missions, including coupled LPV approaches, without sacrificing a single inch of valuable radio stack panel space.”
