Sporty’s has added ForeFlight compatibility to its PJ2 GPS handheld radio, allowing pilots to view GPS position information on the ForeFlight Mobile app. EAA AirVenture Oshkosh visitors can view the handheld at the Sporty’s exhibit, along with the company’s new Carbon Monoxide Detector Charger.
Available for $399 (currently at a $369 special price), the PJ2 GPS carries on the original PJ2’s simple configuration, using standard general aviation headset jacks, eliminating the need for a separate cable interface for the headset connection. Other new features include a color screen, Bluetooth connection, built-in intercom (an adapter is available for connecting two headsets), and GPS functionality. Even without the connection to ForeFlight, the PJ2 GPS display shows groundspeed, altitude, track, and simplified waypoint navigation. Both a rechargeable battery via a USB-C port and AA battery power are available.
The new Flight Gear Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detector Charger, at $49.95, combines a plug-in charger for cigarette lighter-style aircraft accessory ports and an LED screen displaying real-time CO readings. Concentration monitoring ranges from zero to 1,000 ppm, and audio and visual alerts start at 50 ppm. The charger works on 12- or 24-volt electrical systems and includes USB-A and -C ports.
