Electronic flight bag (EFB) developer iFlyEFB is developing a landing gear indicating system that displays the position of the gear on the app. The system works with sensors mounted on the landing gear and indicates whether the gear is up or down.
“For amphibious aircraft, this can provide an additional layer of awareness before water-scooping operations and during landing, when proper gear configuration is critical,” according to iFly EFB. “This integration demonstrates how iFly EFB is expanding beyond navigation and flight planning to deliver greater operational awareness in the cockpit.”
This week at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, iFlyEFB is demonstrating this landing gear awareness technology, as well as recent improvements to the EFB app. These include MOS forecasts, visual approaches, turn-aware flight planning, new vertical and horizontal navigation instruments, PDF navlog generation and export, and night-mode improvements.
Also on demonstration is iFlyEFB’s integration with EyeLights smart glasses. This allows pilots to view flight instruments and app information in the glasses, to help improve situational awareness without having to look at the tablet running the app. The company also plans to add Brazilian chart coverage in an upcoming iFly EFB update.
