Flying Aboard the Phillips 66 Aerostars Yakovlev YAK-52TW

At the recent EAA AirVenture show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, AIN’s Editor-in-Chief Matt Thurber went flying with the Philips 66 Aerostars aerobatic team. The Aerostars have been flying Romanian-built Yak-52TWs at airshows for more than 10 years, in tight formation loops and rolls just three feet from each others’ wingtips, both during the day and at night.
